Where is the best place to stay in Yellowstone?

Yellowstone National Park covers 9,000 square kilometers of natural landscapes and unusual places: giant waterfalls, geysers and other geothermal phenomena.If you want to see most of the highlights and enjoy the activities the park has to offer, it is highly recommended that you stay for at least three days.

There are five different entrances to the park , and within it you will find many services that will make your stay as comfortable as possible.Inside the park you will find a total of nine hotels and more than ten camp sites ; if you travel by caravan, there are several free areas where you can also camp. Inside the park you can stay near the Old Faithful geyser or in the Grant Village complex -both in the west, almost in the middle of the park-, or in Mammooth -in the north-, a hot spring area full of interesting places.

If you wish to stay more economically outside the park, less than ten kilometers from the west entrance you will find the city of West Yellowstone , full of small museums and interesting places; you can also stay at Red Lodge , 80 kilometers from the northeast entrance -the perfect place to practice all kinds of sports outdoor . Cody is about 60 miles from the east entrance, and Jackson Hole is about 60 miles from the south entrance.both cities will offer you all kinds of services and amenities.

Best places to stay in Yellowstone

Old Faithful

Sixty percent of the world’s geysers are located in Yellowstone and five of them are regularly arranged next to the famous Old Faithful geyser.Old Faithful erupts approximately every 90 minutes and shoots a giant column of boiling water, averaging 44 metres high, into the air – watching this spectacle is why many tourists choose to stay nearby.

While waiting to see this spectacle there are plenty of places nearby where you can enjoy hearty meals.Near Old Faithful there are several lodging options, ranging from hostels and log cabins to the park’s most popular inn, which currently has more than 300 rooms.

Grant Village

Grant Village is named after the man who came up with the idea for the world’s first national park: Ulysses S. Grant.This is an area on the southwest side of Yellowstone Lake, which has a marina where you can enjoy various water activities such as boating, kayaking, etc.

There are several possibilities for accommodation, with very varied prices.

Mammooth

The hot springs are the main attraction of this part of the park, as well as the imaginary line of the 45th parallel.The resulting cloud of steam is an interesting phenomenon to witness, and you can also swim in the river during the day.

This is a great place to discover the diverse fauna of the area; you can see all kinds of animals, from sheep grazing, to all kinds of birds fishing for fish.If you wish you can stay in one of the several cabins sprinkled throughout the area or in a hotel near the hot springs.

West Yellowstone

Just a short distance from the west entrance to Yellowstone you will find the town of West Yellowstone.This small and picturesque town has a lot to offer, with many small but interesting museums, an impressive IMAX room, an indoor shooting range and of course the very exciting Grizzly & Wolf Discovery Center, which makes West Yellowstone a very attractive place to stay.

The accommodation you will find are some hotels that belong to the big chains, but mostly in smaller properties, where the personal and family touch is what makes the difference.

Red Lodge

At present Red Lodge is a good alternative to stay in the park. The city is a well known area for the different outdoor activities you can practice, such as mountain bike , skiing and trekking .In April, the city fills up with participants in the Peaks to Prairie Triathlon, and tea lovers will not be able to leave the city without visiting the Red Lodge Book & Tea restaurant, which has over 140 varieties of tea, including delicious green tea and iced tea.

Although not as large as Jackson Hole, accommodation options are varied with ranches, cozy bed & breakfast , campgrounds , backpacker hostels, refuge cabins and large hotels with indoor pools and spa .

Cody

Cody is a town near the east entrance of the park, near Yellowstone Lake. In the center of town you will find a variety of restaurants where you can taste dishes from all over the world. Some of the restaurants are real specialists in the preparation of meat dishes. In town you can go to two icons of art and entertainment that are a must see: the legendary Chuckwagon Dinner and the show Cody Gunfighters.On the 4th of July all kinds of concerts are organized in the central park and many other events are held throughout the town.

In Cody you will find various accommodation options with a wide range of prices; for example national hotel chains, bed & breakfast , ranches, camping sites and caravan sites.

Jackson Hole

Just a couple of hours from the south entrance to Yellowstone is Jackson Hole.It is a resort that is active all year round, perfect if you want to enjoy a family vacation, and where you can do a variety of activities that are organized in both summer and winter.If you decide to leave the resort for a few hours, do not forget to visit Grand Teton, where you can test your skills in all kinds of sports outdoor as the rafting , riding, cycling and hiking.
