Why should I go on a honeymoon to Cartagena?
If you like adventure and culture and want to enjoy the city you visit instead of staying at the resort, then Cartenga is definitely the destination for you. This was my first time visiting S. America, and I didn’t know anything about it. I had no idea what to expect, but I fell in love instantly.
It has beaches, the walled city, Instagram point hotels, luxury hotels, boutique hotels, rural 5-restaurant hotels, and private island hotels; you can find every type of accommodation imaginable and most of them are very nice and accommodating for Americans.
There are a plethora of non-traditional places to celebrate weddings: bastions, a colonial theater, a multi-seater, the beach, a boat and multiple private islands.
There are so many activities perfect for wedding or honeymoon guests, we rent a private catamaran and sail around the bay of Cartagena leading to the Caribbean Sea (highly recommended), take a motorboat to a private island (where you can stay), shop, walk on the beach and stay in the trendy rooftop bars.
Cartagena is reasonably priced (you can rent entire historic boutique hotels, including lodging, for the same amount you would pay to rent a typical U.S. ballroom) This allows couples to plan several events for the wedding because Cartagena is so affordable.
